Open Mold Fiberglass Manufacturing

C & C Fiberglass specializes in open mold fiberglass fabrication. Open mold fabrication is extensively used in applications that only require one smooth side surface. Using this approach, we can take advantage of mold, tooling, and start up costs.

In open mold fabrication, the cosmetic surface of the custom fiberglass part is assembled next to the male or female mold. A gel coat is applied to the mold, followed by the bulk laminate, coring materials, and skin laminate. This mixture of glass and resin can be sprayed or hand-laid onto the mold.

Hand lay open mold fabrication is typically used when the materials in the fiberglass reinforced plastic are chopped strand mats or woven and stitched textile products. When the fiberglass laminate is chopped roving, a chopper gun is used to spray the resin and roving on to the mold.

C & C Fiberglass works with all size runs and fabricates parts of all sizes. Recently we completed a request for custom parts as large as 10 ft x 20 ft.

CAD Knowledge / Design Formats

C & C Fiberglass accomodates all client's preferred method of design approach in all formats including fax, drawing, and design files. We accept practically all CAD drawings and software types. Providing proper CAD (computer-aided design) information is relevanl during the creation of a fiberglass pattern. This pattern exhibits all geometrical, dimensional, and surface characteristics of the finished part.

CNC Machining

In cases in which we use CNC machines to build the pattern rather then hand built, we work closely with our partner, Q-Model Inc., to provide these services. Q-Model Inc.'s state-of-the-art facility includes multiple CNC's.
