Case Study : Ford Truck Bed

The C & C Fiberglass, Inc. Truck Bed adds a uniquely styled conventional pickup bed to the bare chassis Ford F-450/550 vehicle. The bed is designed as a fifth-wheel towing vehicle. The low profile bed has a fixed, recessed tailgate which allows for fifth-wheel access, or can be purchased with a functional standard tailgate.

The bed is a one-piece, reinforced fiberglass construction laminated over a sturdy wood frame. The bed is made for mounting directly to the F-450/550 chassis. A fifth-wheel hitch is independently mounted to the frame. The bed is supplied with a primer gel coast finish, capable of paint matching to cab color. The bed may be purchased as an independent unit with installation kit, or may be installed on a supplied truck chassis. The product may be equipped with additional features, as follows:

Owner's Use Instructions

The C&C Fiberglass, Inc. truck bed for the 60-in. cab-to-axle Ford F-450/550 is designed for the exclusive use as a fifth-wheel towing vehicle. The bed provides an aesthetically pleasing and unique finished look to the towing vehicle in the conventional pickup bed style.

However, due to the fifth wheel design limitations (reduced sidewall height, recessed tailgate, and lack of load stabilizing devices) this bed is not recommended for use as a pickup vehicle for the transport of loads.

Designed for a Cab-to-Axle dimension of 60-in., which may include the 176.20-in. wheel base Crew Cab, or Super Cab chassis-cab models, or the 140.8-in. wheel base regular cab, chasses-cab model.

CAD Knowledge / Design Formats

C & C Fiberglass accomodates all client's preferred method of design approach in all formats including fax, drawing, and design files. We accept practically all CAD drawings and software types. Providing proper CAD (computer-aided design) information is relevanl during the creation of a fiberglass pattern. This pattern exhibits all geometrical, dimensional, and surface characteristics of the finished part.

CNC Machining

In cases in which we use CNC machines to build the pattern rather then hand built, we work closely with our partner, Q-Model Inc., to provide these services. Q-Model Inc.'s state-of-the-art facility includes multiple CNC's.
